Meet Maria, the founder of Shangies
Hi, my name is Maria.
In 2016, I launched the Shangies by Stilov sandal. What started as a fun hobby, rapidly developed into a business with now more than 250 retailers worldwide.
The Shangies sandals are very light and comfortable. Great quality in a classic design at a great price and in lots of amazing colours.
I got the idea for the sandals in Shanghai where I lived and worked for 6 years. During that time, I was inspired to develop a jute sandal in a Nordic design.
All the Shangies retailers are unique, dedicated and hand-picked. You can find Shangies among modern art and design in some of Denmark’s museums, overlooking the sea in cosy and luxurious hotels and among rhubarb and rosemary in homely garden centres.
To me, it’s fascinating to build a brand not only for the Danish market but which has made it all the way to USA, France, Mallorca and many other countries.
I’m happy to say that there’s more to my life than Shangies. I am lucky to have two amazing young sons - Herman and Carl. We live on Østerbro, Copenhagen and whenever we get the chance, we love spending time in our lovely allotment on Amager, Copenhagen.
Life as an entrepreneur is tough and demanding at times, but it is so worth it when your dream becomes reality. In just a few years, Shangies have become a fashion essential and the preferred sandals for a lot of people.
